WORLD Radio - Kicker: Pardoned turkeys

NICK EICHER, HOST: President Trump this week pardoned a pair of turkeys from the holiday table. Each bird is around 40 pounds. One is named Peas, the other—you guessed it!—is Carrots.

Trump told the fowl as far as he’s concerned, they’re free to live out the rest of their days. BUT…

TRUMP: Unfortunately, I can’t guarantee that your pardons won’t be enjoined by the 9th Circuit. Always happens.

REICHARD: (laugh) Yes, it does!

EICHER: An online contest conducted by the White House determined which bird should be pardoned. Trump initially identified the lone “lucky bird” as Peas.

But he ultimately gave Carrots a pass as well.

President George H.W. Bush established the annual turkey pardon tradition, sparing a 50-pound bird in 1989.

It’s The World and Everything in It.
