NICK EICHER, HOST: Musician Anna Henry had a potentially career ending brain disorder— severe tremors that interfered with her flute playing.
That is— until she underwent surgery called “deep brain stimulation.”
A fully awake Henry actually played her flute during the procedure to help surgeons at the Texas Medical Center in Houston gauge their progress.

Her virtuoso performance revealed the operation was a smashing success.
It’s normal for patients to be awake during deep brain stimulation so doctors can be sure they’re not doing any damage.
But we guess not many of them play the flute.
