WORLD Radio - Kicker: Lost and found purse

NICK EICHER, HOST: A high school senior in Indiana lost her purse and she must’ve thought she’d never see it again, because she gave up the search.

It contained the usual stuff: her wallet, some lipstick, a school basketball schedule, gum wrappers she’d not discarded—Juicy Fruit! And, a handwritten invitation to Prom. Imagine her surprise when this week it turned up. That’s how we have such specific detail about the contents.

Really specific, even down to the exact wording of the prom invitation. It read: “Dear Marty, I’ve heard that Paul has asked you to go to the Prom with him. If he hasn’t I would like very much to take you. Love, Jordy. P.S. If you have already consented to go with Paul please forget that I have asked. If he has asked but you haven’t consented yet please consider my invitation.”

REICHARD: Who writes like this anymore?

EICHER: Oh, I left out a detail. Marty, that is, Martha Everett, lost the purse in 1955. Workers this year were demolishing Jeffersonville High when someone came across the purse wedged behind science classroom cabinets.

Marty’s 82 now. We’ll have to wait to find out how she answered Jordy.

It’s The World and Everything in It.

(Photo/Greater Clark County Schools) The Greater Clark County Schools posted a photo of the black purse on its Facebook page last week asking social media users to help them track down Martha Ina Ingham.
