NICK EICHER, HOST: Police in Brazil recently raided the home of two suspected drug dealers in the town of Teresina. Officers arrested those two.
They also took a third suspect into custody: the lookout who tried to warn them that police had arrived.
But that third suspect is facing no charges. Instead, he is remanded into the custody of the Teresina Zoo.
See, the alleged drug dealers’ lookout was a green-feathered parrot. When the police arrived, the parrot began to shout, “Mommy, police!”
Now this of course is a translation out of Portuguese and it was a bird talking. So.
Anyway, the officers regarded this as evidence that the parrot was trained to say exactly what he said.
Happily, now the bird has the opportunity to leave behind his life of crime, and start a new life.
REICHARD: And turn over a new feather!
EICHER: It’s The World and Everything in It.
