Kicker: Life-saving CPR

NICK EICHER, HOST: A man awoke from a medically induced coma just in time for the birth of his son.  

That moment came days after his wife, who was 39 weeks pregnant at the time saved him from cardiac arrest.

Ashley Goette says she awoke Oct. 16th to hear her husband, Andrew, gasping for air. She called 911 and a dispatcher on the other end of the phone took her through the steps of CPR.

First responders quickly arrived and rushed Andrew to the hospital. And there, doctors placed him in a medically induced coma. They told Ashley it wasn’t clear if her husband would survive.

But several days later, Andrew opened his eyes. And soon after, he opened his arms to hold his baby boy. The Goettes told CBS News…

GOETTE: (Andrew) I was just excited to be able to see him be born, to be able to get to hold him right away, first actually. … (Ashley): He’s coming home, and that’s really the only thing that matters.

EICHER: And now, mom, dad and baby Lennon (think John, not Vladimir) are all doing just fine.
