NICK EICHER, HOST: Maybe you’re thinking, it’s Monday. I’m dragging a bit. Maybe I need another cup of coffee. But before you do, here’s a different idea. Maybe consider a new recommendation coming out of Japan.
Professor Yoshihiko Koga claims ice cream improves both alertness and mental performance first thing in the morning.
That’s right. Ice cream.
Study participants who got a scoop right after they woke up had faster reaction times and less mental irritation than those who got nothing.
MEGAN BASHAM, HOST: Well, no wonder! I’d be a little grouchy if I had to wake up just to watch someone else eat a bowl of ice cream!
EICHER: Right? Well, we should probably take this one with grain of rock salt. You know, the kind they use to make ice cream?
Turns out a candy company funded the research. Follow the money.
BASHAM: I’ll follow the ice cream.
EICHER: It’s The World and Everything in It.
