WORLD Radio - Kicker: Hot doughnuts

NICK EICHER, HOST: Sometimes you just can’t avoid getting emotionally involved in a case.

Police officers in Kentucky were particularly bereft when a delivery truck caught fire. Thankfully, the driver was ok, but the cargo was a total loss.

Adding insult to injury, the cargo was Krispy Kreme doughnuts, giving new meaning to the slogan “hot doughnuts now.”

Lexington, Kentucky, police mocked themselves with distraught over-reactions to the doughnut disaster on social media.

The police posts went viral and the Krispy Kreme social-media team got involved. One post said,

We’re thinking of you during this difficult time and have more doughnuts on the way!

The company and a police escort delivered dozens of doughnuts to the city police department a few days later.

Everybody loves a happy ending!

REICHARD: ’Specially when there’s a custard-filled ending!

EICHER: It’s The World and Everything in It.
