NICK EICHER, HOST: You’ve heard about the hot jobs economy: another month, another 200,000-plus jobs added, the April unemployment rate’s now the best in half a century.
It’s to the point where there are more jobs available than workers available.
Even down in Southeast Missouri, the local fire department is having to come up with a creative approach to help-wanted ads.
So check this out: Scott County Rural Fire Protection District, Station 2. “Help wanted: Hard labor, odd hours, low pay.”
Sound good?
REICHARD: No.
EICHER: Well, it didn’t sound good to the fire chief, either. Clearly, he needed to add something more to his appeal for new recruits.
AUDIO: Almost every advertisement that you see is kinda boring, so we wanted to add some humor to it and somethin’ to try to catch people’s attention.
So here’s the attention-getter he came up with:
Hard labor, odd hours, low pay. Cool helmet!
