NICK EICHER, HOST: Back in May, a picture of former WORLD Washington correspondent Evan Wilt holding a Kit Kat bar went viral.
His girlfriend, reporter Haley Byrd snapped the picture after Evan took a huge bite out of the entire bar. Evan had never before eaten a Kit Kat. So he was unaware of the rule that you’re supposed to break it.
AUDIO: Give me a break, break me off a piece of that Kit Kat bar.
The online teasing was merciless. CNN’s Jake Tapper jokingly told Haley that Evan’s faux pas should be a relationship dealbreaker!
But we know Evan. He is persistent.
The folks in Kit Kat’s marketing department helped Evan create an authentic plastic 3D model of a Kit Kat bar, sealed in a wrapper. And inside was a hidden compartment — just big enough for an engagement ring.
Kneeling in front of the Jefferson Memorial in Washington, he popped the question.
WILT: So I learned that eating it the way I was eating it wasn’t the right way to do it, but if you break it off, it can be better. Will you marry me? Yes I will! [cheers]
Congratulations, Evan and Haley!
