WORLD Radio - Kicker: Free to swarm

NICK EICHER, HOST: Beekeeper Wallace Leatherwood of Waynesville, North Carolina was driving along, just minding his own business, when one of the small boxes he was carrying overturned.

And when it did, 3,000 bees were free to swarm around inside the cab of his truck.

He had the presence of mind to catch the mishap on cell phone video:

LEATHERWOOD: Houston, we have a problem. We got bees everywhere. Those are real bees.

Leatherwood pressed on, as bees swarmed inches from his face on the driver’s side window.

You’re thinking, roll the window down, right?! Wrong. No way he’d do that. Remember, the man’s a beekeeper. Leatherwood noted that single box of bees is worth $165.

Forty miles later, he was home safe. That is, until he tried to get the bees out of the truck.

That’s when he got stung a few times.

It’s The World and Everything in It.
