Kicker: Eating poison ivy

NICK EICHER, HOST: You may be surprised to know that Ruth Bader Ginsburg enjoys munching on poison ivy.

No, we’re not talking about the Supreme Court justice. We’re talking about three goats named Ruth, Bader, and Ginsburg.

Vermont’s capital city of Montpelier has hired the goats to help get rid of poison ivy. City governments are increasingly turning to goats to get rid of unwanted plants and weeds. Goats, of course, are voracious eaters.

In Montpelier, the poison ivy has been so bad this year that the city posted signs for bikers and joggers to beware.

An official says the city wants to use chemical treatments only as a last resort and organic treatments haven’t worked.

The goats’ owner expects it to take several years to eradicate the poison ivy completely.
