NICK EICHER, HOST: A doctored photograph has sparked a political controversy in Canada!
Five candidates are hoping to send Prime Minister Justin Trudeau packing. Elizabeth May is one of them. She’s head of the Green Party in the Great White North.
But last week her party admitted to Photoshopping an image of May to remove something she was holding and replace it with something more appropriate.
The scandalous object in her hands in the original picture was…
A disposable cup.
That’s right, a cup, a paper cup, a recyclable paper cup.
But that’s way too passé for Canadian environmentalists. So, someone within the party doctored the photo to make it look like she was holding a reusable cup. And we’re not talking about the ultimate Canadian reusable cup, the hockey prize, the Stanley Cup, which has been re-used for more than a century. Nope, instead it was a cup with a Green Party logo on it, and an up-to-date metal straw.
May responded to cup–gate saying she was “completely shocked” to learn of the edited image. Shocked, shocked to discover deception going on in politics.
It’s The World and Everything in It.
