Kicker: Citizen police work

NICK EICHER, HOST: Danielle Reno is no trained detective. 

But try telling that to two alleged thieves now in custody. 

Ms. Reno stopped at a QuickTrip gas station in Kansas City last week. She grabbed her daughter out of the backseat and walked away from her Toyota 4Runner for just a few seconds. 

But when she returned, her car was gone—so was her wallet and so was her phone. 

RENO: Did I park somewhere else? No, I know I parked here. And then I’m like—somebody stole my car! And it was just all downhill from there.

She filed a police report. But then got busy doing a little police work of her own. She told KCTV…

RENO: We stalked this lady literally for 48 hours. She had no idea what we were doing.

Reno followed the location of her cell phone and purchases made using her credit cards. And she eventually tracked them to a local Applebee’s restaurant.

When the suspects walked in, she walked out, hopped into her car, drove away, and called the police—who then seated the two in the back of the squad car.
