Kicker: Bulldog pink

NICK EICHER, HOST: When we humans take the long view of life, we get things more right than when we don’t. 

Take what happened at a college football game earlier this month. On the field were the University of Georgia Bulldogs and the Arkansas State Red Wolves. 

The Bulldogs hosted and thousands of fans dressed in the same color and held up handmade signs. Some male students went shirtless, wearing body paint in place of a jersey, along with colorful wigs. 

So far, so good. That’s normal for a college football game.

But what was different was the color they were wearing. The fans had traded Georgia Bulldog red—for pink!

And the signs that would normally say things like “Go Dawgs!”  instead bore messages like “remember Wendy.” 

Wendy Anderson is the late wife of the opposing team’s Head Coach, Brian Anderson. She died last month of breast cancer. And that September 14th game in Georgia was Brian Anderson’s first game back on the sidelines since taking a leave of absence to care for his sick wife. 

After the game, an emotional Anderson called it “one of the classiest moves” he’d ever seen.

ANDERSON: Hard to truly prepare for something like that. So I would say thank you to all those who showed up today.

Just goes to show you that even in the heart of college football country, fans haven’t forgotten,  some things are bigger than the game.
