NICK EICHER, HOST: Police in Iran recently arrested a young couple for committing a lewd public display in a public shopping mall. But it’s not nearly as bad is sounds.
What they did would be celebrated in most of the world. And in fact—

—shoppers in that very mall just south of Tehran did celebrate, breaking into applause … as you can hear … when the young bride-to-be said “yes!”
That’s right the couple’s crime was a public marriage proposal.
The young man arranged balloons and rose petals in the shape of a heart and stood in the center of the heart as he popped the question.
The local deputy police chief explained the arrest, saying while public proposals are common elsewhere in the world such a display violates local culture and religion. The couple quickly posted bail and gained release, desiring only the bonds of matrimony.
