NICK EICHER, HOST: A South Carolina man battling cancer had one dying wish: He wanted to be baptized.
Jenis James Grindstaff, now in his 80s, is a hospice patient. He told television station WDSU he’s lived a full life. He’s a father and a Navy veteran.
GRINDSTAFF: I was in Cuba, Guantanamo.
And he said he’s been a Christian as long as he can remember.
GRINDSTAFF: I’ve always loved Jesus.
But he’d never been baptized. And for Grindstaff, this was one way to display his faith in Christ before he leaves this world.
So the Spartanburg Regional healthcare system moved him to a local assisted-living facility. There, a special 60 gallon tub and the chaplain were waiting.
The video of his baptism has gone viral online, with hundreds of thousands of views.
“If I reach one person,” Grindstaff says, “it’s a great deal.”
It’s The World and Everything in It.
