Kicker: A D.C. lobbyist with Down Syndrome

NICK EICHER, HOST: One of Washington, DC’s newest lobbyists is finding it easy to get face time with lawmakers.

30-year old Kayla McKeon is the first registered Capitol Hill lobbyist with Down syndrome.

She represents the National Down Syndrome Society.

MCKEON: How amazing it feels just knowing I’m on Capitol Hill, and I get in touch with people that can help me enact laws.

Enacting laws that help the disabled is McKeon’s mission— and she’s already worked to pass the Able to Work Act. That’s a measure to promote tax-advantaged savings accounts to help cover disability expenses.

Lawmakers admit it’s pretty hard to tell her “no.”
