Kicker: A crowing victory

NICK EICHER, HOST: Now here’s a story of a court litigant in France by the name of Maurice who can literally crow about his victory. 

Of course, literally crowing is pretty much the extent of his ability to communicate. You see where we’re going here. 

Maurice is a rooster. He lives in a somewhat rural part of France. But he’s surrounded by city folks with country homes they visit when they can. 

These neighbors took Maurice’s owner to court because the bird was crowing too much as far as they were concerned. 

These part-timers come to the country for peace and quiet on the weekends, and they clash with the people who live there full time along with their chickens. 

Maurice’s owner Corrine Fesseau and her fellow ruralites…

AUDIO: [Sound of celebration]

… popped champagne after the ruling that lets Maurice and his brood stay.

The judge declared the rooster was “just being himself.”
