WORLD Radio - Kicker: A controversial conclusion

NICK EICHER, HOST: The government of Switzerland has reached a controversial conclusion.

It has determined that you can live without your morning coffee!

For decades the Swiss government has required coffee makers to keep a hefty supply locked away in case a national emergency disrupts supply.

The country also stockpiles staples such as rice and sugar.

But the government announced this month that as of 2022, it will no longer require stockpiles of coffee.

The reason, according to a government announcement: “The Federal Office for National Economic Supply has concluded coffee … is not essential for life.”

It’s The World and Everything in It.
