WORLD Radio - Kicker: A Christmas miracle

NICK EICHER, HOST: Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Chicago was set to close last Friday. So Thursday was scheduled for the last worship service there.

Parishioners filed out of the 120-year-old building in tears—knowing the property was slated to go to auction the next day.

The church faced legal problems and millions of dollars in debt when a bank foreclosed.

The minister there said worshipers prayed for a miracle.

That night, around midnight, the phone rang and on the other end of the line, an offer. A nonprofit group had pulled together $2 million to stop the closure.

The parish council president spoke to ABC7 Eyewitness news.

AUDIO: For us, this is our Christmas miracle.

It’s The World and Everything in It.
