WORLD Radio - Kicker: A cat-astrophic hit

Bald eagle drops an unexpected package through a windshield

NICK EICHER, HOST: In western North Carolina, a driver calls 911.

DRIVER: “Okay, you may not believe me, but I just had a bald eagle drop a cat through my windshield…”

Positive ID of a bird mid-flight while she's cruising at highway speed, difficult to believe.

But the dispatcher's like, mmm-kay, just another day at the office.

DISPATCHER: “I do believe you, honestly.” (laughter)

DRIVER: “He’s like, ‘That is the craziest thing I’ve ever seen.’”

The impact shattered the passenger side, presumably where her eyewitness was sitting.

But just one last question:

DISPATCHER: “Is the cat still alive?”

DRIVER: “No… it is not.”

So she was directed to a highway patrolman who would take her report.

Apparently it's not unheard of for birds of prey to drop what they’re carrying —what's unusual is the bullseye.

It’s The World and Everything in It.
