WORLD Radio - Kicker: A car in the kitchen

NICK EICHER, HOST: Thankfully, Florida was able to dodge the worst of Hurricane Dorian.

But it often pays to be prepared, so Floridians sometimes resort to extreme measures.

Patrick Eldridge of Jacksonville wanted his car out of the elements, but there was no room in the garage. It was jammed with junk.

REICHARD: Well, whose isn’t?!

EICHER: As Eldridge saw it, he had two options:

One: Move out the junk and make room.

Or two: Find another room—like the kitchen.

No kidding.

He opened up the double glass doors from the back patio and having scooted the kitchen table out the way—the car fit in there with no problem!

You need to know, it’s not because he has a big kitchen. It’s because he has a very small car.

Eldridge drives a Smart car. You may have seen these tiny things on the road. Imagine a golf cart and a VW Beetle getting married and having kids: their family would be a fleet of Smart cars.

You can look online at the picture of this. Pretty funny. But Eldridge parked his Smart car in the kitchen out of fear it might blow away with the approaching storm.

Considering it’s about half the size of a Honda Accord, that concern seems reasonable.

It’s The World and Everything in It.
