WORLD Radio - Kicker: 85-year-old acrobat

NICK EICHER, HOST: Betty Goedhart just set a new Guinness World Record.

Now, she didn’t set a new bar for aerial acrobatics or pull off the world’s most death-defying feat.

What she did was take to the trapeze at 85 years of age.

Goedhart is now officially the oldest ever female trapeze artist.

And she didn’t take her first lesson until she was nearly 80!

She said it all started many years ago when as a child her parents took her to a circus in Kansas City.

GOEDHART: And I just loved all those women who flew so pretty, and I thought well how wonderful to be able to fly like that. Someday I’m going to do that.

And someday she did! It just took about 70 years.

She says she’s hoping to encourage people not to think that when they hit 55 that they’re old.

Amen, sister!

It’s The World and Everything in It.
