For over 100 years, the town of Mitterfirmiansreut, Germany, has built The Snow church, constructed entirely of ice and snow. It began in 1911 as a protest church, with worship services of its own as secluded Mitterfirmiansreut had no church. With a replica of the nearest church, then a 90-minute hike away, residents hoped to draw attention to their plight.
