The right to abort and our right to not have to pay for it
As if the slaughter of unborn babies weren’t enough, the pro-abortion lobby wants taxpayers to continue funding the dismemberment for “poor” women. But Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett and others are trying to restrict such funding. On Monday, the Republican governor signed into law a bill that bars private insurers in Pennsylvania’s state health exchange, set up under the so-called “Affordable Care Act,” from including abortion coverage.
Of course, there’s an exception for rape, incest, or danger to the mother’s life. The Hyde Amendment purportedly bars the use of federal funds for abortions except in cases of rape, incest, or danger to the mother’s life, and most states adopt these criteria for state funding. But Planned Parenthood receives money from taxpayers, and only a fool would believe the abortion mill doesn’t use the money for convenience abortions.
If we pro-lifers can’t convince lawmakers to protect unborn babies from the abortionist’s vacuum and suction tools, the uterine curette, syringes, decapitators and other instruments of death, perhaps we can convince them that women who don’t want their babies should pay for abortions themselves. But Planned Parenthood stands in the way.
The organization received more $500 million in taxpayer funds last year. But a defund-Planned Parenthood movement that took root several years ago now has at least 10 states attempting to restrict such funding. The pro-life group Live Action, with its undercover videos depicting Planned Parenthood employees lying about fetal development and willing to ignore statutory rape, was a catalyst in the defund movement.
Take a moment to really think about abortions and taxes. “Poor” women have the choice to be as sexually irresponsible as they’d like to be and exercise the so-called right of privacy to kill the babies conceived. What choice or right do unborn babies have if the mothers don’t want them? What choice or right do pro-lifers have? A woman is free to kill, but we’re not free to refuse to pay for the kill. The word unfair is too weak to describe it.
How did it get to be a bad thing to oppose paying for other people’s abortions? No one has a right to shelter, food, clothing, or healthcare, but even if they did, abortion isn’t healthcare. The pro-abortion movement believes we must shut up about the carnage, and as the tiny bodies pile up, remain silent as we turn over the fruits of our labor.
It’s illogical, presumptuous, unjust, and depraved. Speaking of which: “Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.”
Evil continually. Even so, God restrains sin. Can you imagine how bad it would be for society’s weakest and most vulnerable members if He didn’t? I’d hate to see what deceitful and desperately wicked hearts would come up with without the common grace of God’s restraint. The unborn must have a voice. We are their voice.
