The next logical step into the abyss
One of my critics may have done me a favor. I forwarded his ravings to a young liberal unbeliever dear to me, who was so repulsed by his views that the Lord may well use this for her conversion.
In response to my recent magazine column “Culture creep,” I received an email that began: “It’s probably not worth bothering to teach you, but I’ll go ahead and point out the flaws in your reasoning.” This person proceeded to demolish (in his own mind) the three slippery strategies for normalizing pedophilia I had isolated for show-and-tell in a sample of the British press. He accused me of Orwellian “newspeak” and then, unaware of the irony, referred to pedophilia as an “intergenerational relationship.”
The critic goes by an odd name online, one you don’t hear every day, so I Googled it. In two clicks I found what appears to be him on a wiki resource called Evil Unveiled, which documents pedophile activism. The site described him as “a male pedophile with an attraction to little girls.” His preference is for girls ages 6 to 12, though he is “sometimes attracted to female babies as young as 1 year old.” Are you sick yet? Good. That’s a healthy sign. Lots of people these days are able to watch two men kissing on a movie screen and not feel sick.
However bad culture is at any given moment, if you predict the next logical step down into the abyss, they will call you a doomsayer. In the 1960s some said one of these days shacking up would be the norm. “Ridiculous,” they cried. In the ’70s some said one of these days we would have homosexual “marriage.” “Preposterous,” they disdained. In the ’80s some said the Christine Jorgensens are coming to our towns. “You’re crazy,” they laughed. In the ’90s some said the next thing was bondage-domination-sado-masochism (BDSM). Now we have a Fifty Shades of Grey craze.
I recently emailed the young liberal woman about the proposed policy for the Boy Scouts, which, if passed, will open the club to openly homosexual leadership. I’ll get back to you on that one. She happens to have a 7-year-old daughter and is a very loving and protective mother. I am interested to learn whether her staunch pro-homosexual stand will be challenged by the prospect of wolves in the henhouse whose delicacy of choice falls in the age group of her child.
