Scrips vs. bloods
It looks like two of our biggest gangs, Scrips and Bloods, will be debating the causes of the Boston Marathon bombings.
Bloods are those who think race, ethnicity, and nationality are the key drivers of our actions. Left-wing bloods are like Salon’s David Sirota, who blogged on Tuesday, “Let’s hope the Boston Marathon bomber is a white American.” He encountered criticism but came back the next day with, “I still hope the bomber is a white American.”
That way the left could smear the Tea Party.
As it turns out, both suspected bombers were/are as Caucasian as you can get, since Chechnya is in the Caucusus, and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev became a naturalized American last Sept. 11. Nevertheless, some right-wing Bloods will say that immigrants who aren’t of Western European stock hurt the United States. Happily, Bloods have less power in America than they did during the bad old days of segregation and nativism.
The real question is: Which Scripture does a person read: the Quran, the Bible, the Vedas, the writings of Buddha, or the latter-day scrolls of Hitchens, Dawkins, and other atheists? Christians are usually Scrips: We read the Bible and know it changed our thinking. The Tsarnaev brothers read the Quran. Few Quran-readers become bombers, but many Quran verses suggest that they should. Scrips understand that theology has consequences, sometimes deadly ones.
