Resisting the re-education camps

How did American culture fall so low so quickly? A Christian business owner had to make a federal case out of not wanting to pay for drugs that might kill unborn babies, something that would have seemed absurd 20 years ago.

Although Hobby Lobby pays for contraceptives through its employees’ health insurance coverage, feminists in our fat and well-fed country have flipped out because the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that a law requiring businesses like Hobby Lobby to pay for drugs that could induce abortions, an affront to the owners’ religious beliefs, violates the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

Alarmists on the left decry this “attack” on women, wrongly believing Hobby Lobby bans its employees from using birth control. What’s truly alarming is how the left makes normal people feel like freaks for opposing the slaughter of the unborn or the flaunting of perversity. America might be the land of the free and the home of the brave, but we’re descending into a less free and less brave country every day.

One of the marks of a repressive culture is the presence of re-education camps. Most people think such things only existed in communist countries like Vietnam or the former Soviet Union, but they exist in less severe forms in Western liberal democracies. For example, Jack Phillips, a Christian and owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop in Colorado, and his staff must undergo “sensitivity” training after refusing on religious grounds to bake a cake for a homosexual “wedding.” But brace yourself for the next “sensitivity” issue: “transgenderism.”

We’re expected to pretend it’s normal for a man to walk around in women’s clothes pretending he’s a woman, when any rational person knows it is not. We’re expected to keep our contrary opinions to ourselves if a boy who feels like a girl wants to use the girls’ shower in the school locker room. We’re supposed to suppress our natural recoil at such egregious displays. If we don’t, we’re portrayed as backward bigots for pointing out the lunacy and offense of it all.

Christians and others who agree with them are made to feel abnormal, hateful, or repressive for resisting this re-education of what is normal, moral, right, and good. The process is two-fold. First, they want our open acceptance. “The world has changed,” they say. “Religion is for the weak. There is no God. There is no normal or abnormal, right or wrong.” If you can’t go along with the tide of progress toward greater enlightenment and self-actualization, then keep your mouth shut.

But as the apostle Paul reminds us in Colossians 3, we must set our minds on things above, not on earthy things. The wrath of God is coming to the unrepentant, those who refuse to put aside fornication, evil desires, covetousness, and all other sins that sent Christ to the cross. We can’t celebrate or accept this behavior as good, nor should we remain silent about it.
