Boxer Mike Tyson, defending himself before the Nevada Athletic Commission, which had suspended his boxing license "for life." The panel punished him for biting off a portion of opponent Evander Holyfield's ear during a June 1997 bout. Last week, 16 months later, the commission agreed by a 4-1 vote to reinstate Mr. Tyson's license. Members of the commission accepted Mr. Tyson's promise to get counseling to control his anger; the chairman said the reinstatement represented his "last chance."
