He was a shadow of himself.

-Los Angeles Lakers basketball coach Phil Jackson, after his former player, Michael Jordan, scored a career-low two points in a game last week between Mr. Jordan's Washington Wizards and the Lakers. The 39-year-old Mr. Jordan, who returned to basketball this season after coming out of a second retirement, played the game with an injured knee and announced after the game that he would not play for the remainder of the season. But he said he plans to return next season, health permitting.

Enough is enough.

-George W. Bush, in an April 4 speech, calling on both parties in the Israeli-Palestinian dispute to stop the violence.

I think a lot of people are beginning to ask, 'Is there something phony about pretending to be objective and reading off a teleprompter in the 21st century?'

-MSNBC chief Erik Sorenson, on the success of Fox News Channel and the relative decline of CNN and his own MSNBC.

To me, that is another life.

-Crohn's disease patient Kathy Duffey, in USA Today, on why she insisted that any procedure using stem cells to treat her used only adult stem cells, not cells from a human embryo. The 38-year-old Ms. Duffey has had the inflammatory bowel disease for 20 years and has had her weight at times drop to 75 pounds.

I think boring after the last year maybe isn't a bad thing.

-Lynn Granger, new mayor of Georgetown, Colo., on her hopes for a quiet tenure after a recall vote last week ousted her predecessor, former stripper Koleen Brooks. Ms. Brooks's year in office had been controversial, including accusations that she exposed herself to citizens in a bar and ordered a hit on a police officer. Voters in the old mining town 45 miles west of Denver removed Ms. Brooks by a vote of 339 to 176.
