The 39-year-old Mr. Jordan, who returned to basketball this season after coming out of a second retirement, played the game with an injured knee and announced after the game that he would not play for the remainder of the season. But he said he plans to return next season, health permitting.

-Crohn's disease patient Kathy Duffey, in USA Today, on why she insisted that any procedure using stem cells to treat her used only adult stem cells, not cells from a human embryo. The 38-year-old Ms. Duffey has had the inflammatory bowel disease for 20 years and has had her weight at times drop to 75 pounds.

-Lynn Granger, new mayor of Georgetown, Colo., on her hopes for a quiet tenure after a recall vote last week ousted her predecessor, former stripper Koleen Brooks. Ms. Brooks's year in office had been controversial, including accusations that she exposed herself to citizens in a bar and ordered a hit on a police officer. Voters in the old mining town 45 miles west of Denver removed Ms. Brooks by a vote of 339 to 176.
