Boston pitcher Curt Schilling, after overcoming a dislocated ankle tendon to pitch seven strong innings and lead the Red Sox to a 4-2 win over the New York Yankees in Game 6 of the American League championship series on Oct. 19. Mr. Schilling later said on ESPN that he is a Christian and that he prayed before the game not to win but "for the strength to go out there and compete." He also said that in an earlier, unsuccessful outing he had relied merely on his own strength, but before this game he realized his dependence on God.
"They're not using me. I'm using them. My agenda is creating awareness of this issue."
Pop singer Ricky Martin, on whether his activism against child sex tourism is helping the Bush campaign, which has also made the issue a high priority.
