Rosa Parks, dispelling the legend that she refused to give up her seat to a white man on a segregated Montgomery, Ala., bus in 1955 because she was tired. Parks' action sparked the Montgomery bus boycott and the civil-rights movement. She died Oct. 24 at the age of 92.
