Diego Santiago, 5, on being made an honorary U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer. Diego is dying of lung cancer and has only weeks to live. His father is a Navy chief and the Navy made Diego an honorary chief, complete with a uniform in a boys' size 6.

The way the city council of Maywood, Calif., hopes illegal immigrants will think of its town. The council passed a resolution opposing a proposed federal law that would criminalize illegal immigration and make local police departments enforce immigration law.
