New York Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle, 34, in an interview with The Philadelphia Inquirer this summer. Fans worried about his airplane hobby, remembering the 1979 crash of Yankees catcher Thurman Munson. Lidle crashed into a Manhattan highrise Oct. 11 and was killed.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman James Jacques, on a group of five illegal immigrants who tried to enter the United States from Mexico through a drainage tunnel but sent the largest member of the group through first. When he got stuck, all five illegals became trapped in the tunnel until they were rescued by San Diego firefighters.
