Public school curriculum promotes abortion
When did public schools get in the sex education business? And why do Christian parents allow it? Atheists aren’t shy about keeping Christianity out of these government schools, so why aren’t Christians more vocal about the government exposing their children to something that isn’t the government’s business?
At least one group of concerned parents in Chesterfield, Mo., has spoken up. Their school district has proposed adding a new program to its curriculum called “Healthy Relationships and Sexual Health Curriculum Frameworks,” which purports to teach about gender identity and homosexuality. Parents contacted Liberty Counsel to complain about the abortion referrals included in the curriculum.
Liberty Counsel—a non-profit legal organization that advances religious freedom, protection of the unborn, and the family—alerted the school district to the conflict. According to state law, public schools can’t provide abortion services or permit a person or entity to be involved in so-called sex education if that person or entity provides abortions.
“I have reviewed the curriculum and must caution the District that if it adopts the Curriculum, it will violate Missouri law due to the involvement of Planned Parenthood and other organizations that provide and promote abortions,” Liberty Counsel’s Richard L. Mast, Jr., wrote in a letter (PDF) to the Parkway School District. “In Missouri, abortion services providers and those who provide referrals for abortions are prohibited from ‘offering, sponsoring, or furnishing’ ‘in any manner’ ‘any course materials or instruction’ ‘relating to human sexuality.’”
Listed in the materials as a resource, among others, is Advocates for Youth, which also helped draft the standards and curriculum. This group promotes allowing minors to kill their babies without parental knowledge or consent, and makes referrals to abortion providers and advocates. Liberty Counsel asked the school district to reject the curriculum or face “additional action to prevent irreparable harm” to constituents’ rights.
Abortion isn’t healthcare, and no government entity should be “educating” children about how to kill their babies without parental consent. Parents should teach their children good values, but even that isn’t the government’s business. The precious unborn are the most vulnerable human beings on the planet. Who will protect them? Convenience abortions are morally wrong acts for which there will be an accounting.
What will abortionists say on Judgment Day? What excuses will they give for killing babies? Professional duty? Passion? So-called “reproductive freedom”? As with any sin, there is forgiveness. “Do not be deceived,” the Apostle Paul wrote. “Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.”
Pray for the protection of the unborn. Those who want to save their lives are considered extremists waging a “war on women.” How did this backward way of thinking become acceptable? The consequences of sin are far-reaching, but our God is gracious and merciful.
