ParaNorman

Norman (voiced by Kodi Smit-McPhee) is a boy who communicates with the dead. He sees them as spirits lurking around the witch-cursed town where his family lives. Norman discovers that he's the only one who can save the town from a girl once executed there for witchcraft, and in the process the community will learn to appreciate as a gift the ability that has made him a "freak" to his family and classmates.

Some adult fans of the curious sub-genre of spooky animated movies might enjoy the movie's sly puns and visual jokes, but its vivid images are a problem particularly for children. The movie is rated PG "for scary action and images, thematic elements, some rude humor and language," but if it were a live action film it would deserve a PG-13 for scary imagery alone. The climactic battle between the witch and Norman is particularly intense. The film also contains references to pornography.
