O, for a paid internship ...

Read this current announcement and weep:

The New Republic is seeking a spring editorial intern to start immediately in our D.C. office. Candidates should display close attention to detail, have strong writing and editing skills, and show initiative in seeking out opportunities to contribute to the magazine. The position is unpaid.”

Hmm. Young reporters do not live by bread alone, but they do need a few crackers to pop into their mouths as they’re out covering stories. Tempting though it would be for WORLD to follow TNR’s example and ask interns to forage for their food, we do pay our interns, and (because of a generous donor) we even provide paid internships on secular newspapers for college students who profess Christ.

For more information about the May 19-31 World Journalism Institute course that is the portal to a summer internship, go to worldji.com. The deadline for WJI applications is March 20. But let me add here a few special requests: I’d like to have a social media intern who can assist our staff in using a variety of social platforms to promote World News Group content, an intern who could work with our daily radio/podcast program The World and Everything in It, and an an intern who would write daily for our website. All of our interns need to see how everyone we profile is created in God’s image and every place we describe is part of a fallen world. Our goal is tell true stories through words, pictures, and sound.
