Nominees wanted for P.C. of the Month

Maybe WORLD should start handing out a Political Correctness of the Month Award. This summer brought strong candidates for the honor, and I’m wondering who the September winner should be.

Summer glories: In June, a Sonoma State University student had to take off a cross she wore because someone “could be offended.” (University spokeswoman Susan Kashack said, “It’s possible that political correctness got out of hand.”) In July, Ball State University’s president banned a science professor from talking in his course about intelligent design: That would violate its “academic integrity.”

The top August honoree could have been an end-of-the-month entry: Michigan State University prof William Penn used the first day of his creative writing class to rant about Republicans raping the United States. Facing a nationwide uproar, good old MSU announced that Penn won’t teach this semester but will be paid more than $12,000 per month for not teaching.

Have any suggestions for September? Add a comment below or email me at molasky@wng.org.
