This was supposed to be the era of parity in the NFL. But the New England Patriots torpedoed the theory that football dynasties were dead by taking home a second Super Bowl victory in as many years, ending the year on a remarkable unbeaten swing. But the Patriots didn't stop there. The team carried over their success into this season, setting the league record for consecutive regular season wins at 18. Including playoffs, the Patriots had won 21 straight before losing to Pittsburgh on Oct. 31. The Steelers embarked on their own streak, heading into Christmas with a winning streak that reached double digits. And as Indianapolis' Peyton Manning rolled up the touchdowns, the Colts piled up the victories, setting up what could be a very memorable AFC playoffs.
