New demand: Fire Nancy Brinker!
Planned Parenthood is not the only bully in town. A big fundraiser for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure is demanding the heads of CEO Nancy Brinker and the Komen board
Eve Ellis, in a letter to friends and family that The Guardian published in London on Wednesday, wrote:
"A clean house would enable Komen to carry on its much-needed, admirable work without the baggage of being the organization that had actually deliberated on and subsequently made the heartless decision to defund Planned Parenthood and to endanger the health of thousands of women."
The Daily Caller Thursday reported that Ellis was a Komen board member in New York for six years and raised more than $250,000 for the group. But, since Planned Parenthood has done almost nothing by itself to fight breast cancer, serving largely as a middleman, Ellis' claim about endangering women's health is over the top.
On the other hand, Komen is clearly guilty by association. CEO Brinker was George W. Bush's ambassador to Hungary and chief of protocol.
Ari Fleischer, a Bush White House Press secretary, has counseled Komen on "crisis communications."
It doesn't matter that Brinker founded Komen after promising her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, that she'd do all she could to fight breast cancer. It doesn't matter that under Brinker the organization grew: some 120 affiliates and 75,000 volunteers in the United States, with nearly $2 billion raised.
How dare Brinker refuse to worship Planned Parenthood! Off with her head!
