The Mt. Zion Methodist Church outside Philadelphia, Miss., dates back to the years after the Civil War. Fifty years ago, on June 21, 1964, civil rights activists James Chaney, Andrew Goodman, and Mickey Schwerner were killed on a country road outside the city while trying to investigate the burning of the church. A stone marker sits in front of the church in memory of the slain men.
