Justice delayed
Why did WORLD prioritize an article on justice delayed? Most of us will never see the inside of a jail or prison. Yes, prison conditions are harsh, but they shouldn’t elicit sympathy. Forgiveness and consequences are two different things.
Andrew Engelman / Stuart, Fla.
The justice system is terribly skewed in our country, where some offenders are released without bail only to re-offend while others languish in county jails for years without a conviction. What can we do about this? How can we, as citizens, help these people in small jails everywhere?
Judith Simpson / Murfreesboro, Tenn.
Taking sides
The subject of gender and sexuality is difficult for every evangelical Christian minister. Mary Jackson’s well-researched and -documented article provides good instruction to reach Generation Z, especially while staying truthful to God’s Word.
Neil Slattery / Fort Worth, Texas
God loves LGBTQ+ people just as they are—but not so they can remain as they are. The cruelest thing Christians can do to LGBTQ+ people is to let them think that somehow they can avoid repentance and sanctification, hang onto deeds and lifestyles that God expressly says He hates, and still expect to receive a “Good job!” before the great white throne. Real friends tell the truth.
Richard King / Rockford, Ill.
Having read Rosaria Butterfield’s and Preston Sprinkle’s books, I think that Butterfield has taken Sprinkle’s quotes out of context and is misrepresenting his stance on Biblical marriage and same-sex attraction.
Connie McCamey / Angels Camp, Calif.
Krieg Barrie’s illustration of the church split over sexuality issues brought to mind that there is a ton of unrepentant sexual brokenness on the side opposite the LGBTQ one as well. Many in our churches engage in lust, view pornography, or think nothing of watching an explicit streaming movie on Saturday night before going to church on Sunday morning. Don’t read Romans 1 without reading Romans 2. We have all gone astray (Isaiah 53:6).
Roger Rehbein / Oakdale, Minn.
Several months ago, I unexpectedly heard of Preston Sprinkle’s influence on Cru. I was very disappointed and disturbed. The Mundells are standing on the Truth. I appreciate their courage!
Dennis Daise / Goodland, Kan.
Before reading this article, I was a double-minded man. I agreed with Christ’s teaching that whosoever looks at a woman with lust in his heart has already committed adultery whether he acts on it or not. But I naïvely accepted that it was acceptable for a man to look at another man with homosexual desire as long as he didn’t act on it. Not anymore.
Bill Tozer / Moscow, Idaho
Living treasure
My husband recently built a coffin for me. Like Joel Belz, I wanted to try it on. Getting in was easier than exiting, which points to when we will be brought up from the grave by a power that’s not of our own. Realizing that the next time I exit I will meet my Savior face-to-face has affected how I use my time now, giving a new twist to the phrase “thinking outside the box.”
Beth Britt Parker / Colonial Beach, Va.
Correction
The 2023 NCAA Division I women’s basketball tournament drew a record-high TV audience but fell short of the men’s tournament viewership (“Golden touch,” April 6, p. 69).
