Do no harm

As I flip through WORLD, I see a pattern: The pictures tell a story. The expressions on the faces of pro-lifers are soft, kind, peaceful. The expressions on the pro-abortion side are the opposite. I wonder what motivates unhappy, angry people to want to do more harm to themselves and others.
    Karen Davis / Exton, Pa.

Ideological enemies

As medical director of our local pregnancy resource center, I pray and encourage our staff to care as Christ cares for each individual who walks in the door. I also testify at the state and national level on the evils of abortion. The Church needs to do both.
    Brick Lantz / Eugene, Ore.

Faith at the front

Getting a closer view of the separations and personal dedication of the men in the fight for Ukraine is useful. We can more easily identify the goals and motivation, and it makes praying for these men and families relatable.
Kay Berbough / Mountain Home, Idaho

Judgment calls

Joel Belz’s classic 2004 column was perfectly timed. The three Trump-appointed Supreme Court justices were instrumental in the three major decisions from late June, proving Joel’s main point. Can you imagine how that week would have turned out if Hillary Clinton had been elected?
    Eric Newton / Washington, N.J.

Joel says three judicial issues are paramount: abortion, marriage, and education. He reminds me of the comment often attributed to Andrew Fletcher: “Let me make the songs of a nation, and I care not who makes its laws.”
Bruce McKechnie / Honey Brook, Pa.

Ally’s alchemy

Lynn Vincent’s account of the WORLD editorial council’s emotional response to the news that the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade is not surprising. It is a cause WORLD has championed for many years. It is surprising that within the inscrutable providence of God, the man He chose to facilitate the decision, the man WORLD deemed “Unfit for power” in 2016, was Donald J. Trump.
    Donald Barley / Mountville, Pa.

When words fail

Thank you, Janie Cheaney. After a 13-year struggle with dementia, my wife, Bobbie, died in January, and your story brought back many good memories of that time of our lives together.
    Kohn Sherrill / Greensboro, N.C.

Janie’s column is a beautiful reminder that we are God’s creation and in God’s hands as we suffer through diminished capacities.
    Chris Clem / Chattanooga, Tenn.

Beyond the cloud

Let’s lay to rest the tired notion that schools “killed cursive.” Cursive is no longer needed. The solution is to print and hang copies of the Constitution in plain print. Why elevate style over the content?
    Kathleen Mancuso / Niskayuna, N.Y.

Faith inside the Fortune 500

Your story was a bit too positive. First, anything connected to the “Religious Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Index” is suspect for its theology. Second, quoting Brian Grim from the Religious Freedom & Business Foundation for anything “warming to the idea of faith in the workplace” is misplaced. The RFBF encourages “faith” in anything and anyone.
    Robert Case / Seattle, Wash.

Correction

John Trumbull’s painting depicts the Declaration of Independence being presented to Congress in 1776 (“An exception to the rule,” July 15, p. 49).
