Love vs. abortion
Romanian is a beautiful romance language, and Romanian poet Claudiu Lulciuc has a beautiful voice as he recites his poem “The Fruit of Love (A Manifesto Against Abortion).” (See video below.)
WORLD Radio today has a segment on Romanian abortion: I hope you’ll listen to it (or read it). But even if you don’t, Lulciuc’s poem is worth hearing and reading. Here’s an English translation done by a Romanian friend with a little editing by me:
The Fruit of Love (A Manifesto Against Abortion)
I was a child, and they named me nothing. While I was still tender they made me suffer. I cried and I cried—and I died. I wasn’t destructive, nor did I know how to be deceitful. I wanted to delight them, To be the fruit of happiness. Love is more than a mere flower, But even it bears fruit in the sun. Any person who has found love Shows the fruit of childhood.
But the cursed teaching That a child is just a mouth, That its diapers and many struggles Leave shattered dreams, That happiness will fly away And the moon will darken, That the future will be erased And life will lose all taste, Broke out of me a first cry, Then another of rejection.
You beat your soul and listened to the world So abortion was an option, Fear overcame you. Love left deliberately. You took one more step. You went to the abortionists And agreed that they might kill me. You knew full well that the guilt is great. Abortion—deceitful word and unquenchable abyss. Made to unsettle your every dream, Shackling love And cursing eternity.
Stop those violent waves. Stop murders in the womb. Let love bear fruit, And God will provide.
