Jan. 17

Haitians will go to the polls today to cast votes in the island nation’s presidential runoff. Banana exporter Jovenel Moïse tallied the most votes in the October election, topping former construction official Jude Célestin. Moïse and Célestin cumulatively took only 58 percent of the original vote, with the remaining 42 percent spread among scores of other candidates.

Jan. 18

After recovering from a listeria outbreak in 2015, ice cream maker Blue Bell is set to return to many Southern markets today. Fans of the Brenham, Texas, creamery lined up at grocery stores in Texas when the brand relaunched sales there last year. On Jan. 18, the ice cream will return to many stores in Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, and Kentucky and all stores in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. The creamery plans to return to the Florida market on Jan. 25.

Jan. 20

The Federal Aviation Administration set today as the deadline to register unmanned flying vehicles like drones or radio-controlled planes on the FAA website without paying the normal registration fee. Those who procrastinate will be forced to pay $5 to register their aircraft, and must do so by Feb. 19, or risk civil and criminal penalties.

Jan. 24

The NFL will hold conference championship games today as a prelude to the Feb. 7 Super Bowl. The AFC’s two top teams will begin the day with a contest at 3 p.m. EST and broadcast on CBS. The NFC championship game will air at 6:40 p.m. on Fox.

Jan. 28

Republican candidates for president of the United States will sprint out ahead of the Feb. 1 Iowa caucus by participating in a live television debate on Jan. 28. Fox News Channel will broadcast the 9 p.m. EST debate, presented from the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines.
