ABC’s hit reality show Dancing With the Stars will return to prime time for its 20th season tonight. Television star Suzanne Somers, singer Patti LaBelle, and former Olympian Nastia Liukin will be a part of the ensemble cast where familiar faces paired with professional dance partners compete against one another.

March 17

Irish across the world will celebrate their patron saint’s feast day today. In the nation’s most Irish state, Massachusetts, up to 1 million revelers will celebrate their annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in South Boston two days earlier on Sunday, March 15.

March 18

President Obama will host Britain’s Prince Charles and his wife in the Oval Office during the prince’s four-day visit to the United States. The heir to the British crown will also visit the National Archives in Washington, D.C., to mark the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta, which occurs later this year.

March 20

An estimated 22,000 Vermont drivers have suspended licenses because of unpaid traffic tickets. In an attempt to recover some income on the state’s more than 113,000 total unpaid tickets, Gov. Peter Shumlin announced that affected Vermonters could pay a lowered rate of $20 per ticket on March 20 and regain their driving privileges.

Nigeria is scheduled to hold its presidential election today amid threats of violence from Boko Haram terrorists. President Goodluck Jonathan faces former dictator Muhammadu Buhari in a race that has Christians considering which candidate can best fight Boko Haram (see “Danger zone”).
