President Barack Obama’s “Ebola Czar,” Ron Klain, is set to depart the White House today after a 130-day tenure coordinating the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention response to the deadly virus outbreak that threatened the United States in 2014. In January, the World Health Organization indicated that the current epidemic was in decline worldwide.

Feb. 16

The nation’s largest Presidents Day parade begins at 1 p.m. in Alexandria, Va., and makes its way through the streets of the city’s historic Old Town section. The day before, runners will compete in Alexandria’s annual George Washington Classic 10K Race.

Illegal immigrants hoping to take advantage of President Obama’s executive actions on immigration can officially begin submitting applications today. According to the plan announced last year, qualifying immigrants who are in the nation illegally can apply for deferred action to prevent deportation.

Planets Venus and Mars will give stargazers something to look at when the two celestial bodies pass extraordinarily close to one another in the western sky. The two can be found after sunset below and to the right of the crescent moon as it rises.

FCC commissioners are scheduled to vote on new net neutrality regulations designed to keep major telecom companies from speeding up or slowing down certain websites. Most expect the FCC to reclassify internet service providers as common carriers like telephone utilities, therefore subject to tighter regulation.
