May 24: Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic could become only the eighth man in history to complete a career Grand Slam if he can take home the men’s singles title at Roland Garros in the French Open. Oddsmakers have made Djokovic the favorite to win the tournament that begins today and concludes June 7.
May 25: The National Memorial Day Parade begins at 2 p.m. on Constitution Avenue in Washington, D.C., as Americans throughout the country honor those who died while serving in the U.S. armed forces. The parade in Washington is televised live and watched by U.S. troops around the world.
May 27: The six Baltimore police officers charged in relation to the death of Freddie Gray are set to appear together in Baltimore District Court for a preliminary hearing. The death of the 25-year-old Gray in police custody touched off rioting and protests in Baltimore in April (see "The Ones Who Stay" in this issue).
May 27: Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum will announce whether he intends to join the increasingly crowded Republican field running for president in 2016. Less than a week later on June 1, South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham is expected to join the throng of GOP contenders.
May 31: After 46 years with CBS News, retiring television journalist Bob Schieffer will for the final time host the Sunday morning political talk show Face the Nation. Schieffer has hosted the show for 24 years. CBS News political director John Dickerson is set to fill Schieffer’s seat.
