Sept. 13

The NFL season begins with a Thursday night game on Sept. 10, but the first big Sunday slate of games happens on Sept. 13 when 26 teams face off. For its Sunday Night Football showcase game, NBC will feature a traditional NFC East matchup of the Dallas Cowboys hosting the New York Giants.

Sept. 16

Japanese automaker Honda will unveil the 10th generation of the Civic today at car shows in Los Angeles and Detroit. The redesigned Honda mainstay emerged in its concept form last year and will soon arrive at dealerships as the 2016 model. The company says it will bring a hatchback version of the Civic to American markets for the first time in years.

Sept. 16

CNN will host the second major televised debate of the 2016 Republican presidential primary season tonight from the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, Calif. Moderators Jake Tapper, Dana Bash, and Hugh Hewitt will pose debate questions to the 10 top-polling candidates.

Sept. 17

The Senate faces a Sept. 17 deadline to vote on the nuclear deal President Barack Obama and leaders of other nations negotiated with Iran. Former Vice President Dick Cheney will travel to Washington to deliver a speech aimed at rallying opposition to the deal, but Obama needs the support of only 34 senators to uphold his veto of a Senate rejection.

Sept. 23

Pope Francis will visit the United States after traveling to Cuba earlier in September. The first scheduled item on Francis’ itinerary is a Sept. 23 meeting with President Obama at the White House. The pontiff will conclude his visit to the United States with a 4 p.m. mass in Philadelphia on Sept. 27.
