Teen pop icon Justin Bieber will appear in a Florida courtroom today for a formal arraignment in connection to a late-night arrest in January. Bieber, 19, was initially charged with driving under the influence, resisting arrest, and driving on an expired license. The troubled Canadian also faces assault charges in Toronto and could soon face vandalism charges in California.

Feb. 16

New Orleans will host this year’s NBA All-Star Game, but at least one local won’t be excited. Despite averaging more than 20 points and 10 rebounds, New Orleans Pelicans forward Anthony Davis didn’t make the All-Star roster—an oversight many consider a snub. Davis, 20, could still make the roster if any Western Conference selectee bows out due to injury.

Six world powers will gather in Vienna today to negotiate a long-term plan to deal with Iran’s rogue nuclear program. Foreign ministers from the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Russia, and China will try to improve upon the interim deal struck last November. Western powers have insisted that Iran halt its enrichment program and make its nuclear activities more transparent.

Finnish phone giant Nokia is expected to debut its first Android smartphone today. Code-named “Normandy,” the new mobile handset is expected to come with a 4-inch display and a five-megapixel camera and run on Google’s operating system for smartphones.

Feb. 28

Street parties and samba will be plentiful as Rio de Janeiro kicks off its annual festivities today. The five-day, Brazilian version of Mardi Gras features parades of samba dancers and bills itself as “the greatest show on Earth.”
